What is BOTOX?
When the diluted form of botulinum toxin is delivered to patients with fine lines and wrinkles, it is commonly known as BOTOX. Used to smooth out these facial imperfections, the solution relaxes the underlying muscles so they will not contract and create new age lines.
Administering BOTOX takes only minutes but can require multiple injections in a single appointment. This will be determined during a regular consultation with Dr. Reed so that you can better prepare for your first visit.
No matter how many injections you require, though, you can expect your results for up to six months.
Who is a Good Candidate for BOTOX?
Knowing whether you are a good candidate for BOTOX requires a consultation with Dr. Reed. It’s during this visit that she will evaluate your skin and make notes about the areas of imperfections, including:
- Wrinkles around your eyes (crow’s feet)
- Smoker’s lines around your lips
- Lines that form between your eyebrows (glabellar lines)
- Wrinkles that form horizontally across your forehead
- Lines that form at the corners of your mouth
While most individuals will be deemed candidates for treatment, some should avoid it, at least temporarily, such as pregnant women. However, those with deep, sunken scars may need to inquire about an alternative solution, like Juvéderm.
Many patients wonder why they should see a dentist for BOTOX instead of visiting somebody else. Dr. Reed has spent countless years studying the facial structure and how each part of your face, including the muscles, work together.
What is Xeomin?
Xeomin uses the same active ingredient as Botox, but the effects usually take about three to four days to become apparent as opposed to two to three. Some patients prefer the peak effects of the treatment to appear more slowly, which makes them more subtle. Also, unlike Botox, the botulinum toxin is not bound to compounding proteins, meaning that Xeomin is effective for patients who are Botox-resistant. This can occur due to someone’s immune system or as a result of using high doses of Botox for a long period of time (which is often the case for people who rely on it to help with teeth grinding).
The Benefits of BOTOX
